THIS IS AMERICA
Series titled “Break Free.” Work displayed in Charlotte Mint Museum (2018).
This series travels through time. It’s a prediction of today. It’s a prediction of how the youth are going to rise up and dismantle systemic racism and oppression throughout the United States government. It starts out with grief in black and white and then progresses through color – red symbolizing anger, blue for sadness, and then back to red because the cycle of police brutality keeps repeating. The series ends in a burst of color because everyone came together to fight the injustices that have permeated all systems of America from the justice system to education.
